As the sun rises, the grass in Mikumi National Park is painted with a beautiful russet color. Seeing a group of zebras standing together like ballerinas, with their stripes flowing gracefully, is stunning. This park is a part of Africa’s largest game reserve and is easily accessible, making it a great place to explore the wilderness that covers 75,000 sq km.
The Mkata Floodplain in Mikumi is a popular destination due to its open horizons and diverse wildlife. Lions are often found atop termite mounds, surveying their grassy kingdom, while giraffes forage in the nearby acacia stands.
The area is also home to zebra, wildebeest, impala, buffalo, and elephants.The Mkata Floodplain, crisscrossed by a reliable circuit of game-viewing roads, is perhaps Tanzania’s best place to spot the world’s largest antelope – the powerful eland. The hills covered in miombo trees are close to the mountains that encircle the park’s boundaries. Are home to the impressive greater kudu and sable antelope.
More than 400 species of birds have been documented, such as the lilac-breasted roller, yellow-throated longclaw, and bateleur eagle, with a host of European migrants joining during the rainy season. The star attraction is A pair of pools 5km north of the main entrance gate, home to hippos and an ever-changing cast of waterbirds.
